About us
A family rooted in hospitality
The story of Hotel De Castillion is one of ambition, dedication, and strong family ties. Marc, a bank director from Sijsele, and Leentje, who ran a grocery shop on Bruges’ Sasplein together with her mother, took a bold step in 1986: transforming a historic property in the heart of Bruges into a luxurious four-star hotel. One year later, in 1987, Hotel De Castillion officially opened its doors — a special moment marked by a blessing from Canon Lagrain.
What began as a daring family project soon became a cherished destination for travellers seeking elegance and warmth in the heart of Bruges. Over the years, their children became involved in the hotel as well. For many years, daughter Delphine Christiaens and son Olivier Christiaens worked together in the family business, helping to shape its distinctive character.
In 2018, Olivier decided to pursue his own path within the hospitality industry, outside of the hotel. Around that time, Joachim Meersseman, Delphine’s husband, joined the family team — a natural step, as Joachim shares the same passion for hospitality and holds a degree from the esteemed Ter Groene Poorte hotel school in Bruges. With his warm personality and aligned vision, Joachim quickly became an essential part of the Castillion story.
A new generation with the same dedication
Delphine and Joachim met in 2014 and shared their lives and a deep-rooted passion for hospitality. Delphine graduated from the prestigious Ter Duinen hotel school in Koksijde and has been active in the hotel since 2011. In 2020, just two years after Joachim joined the family hotel, the couple took over the reins from Marc and Leentje.
With respect for the past and a keen eye for modern luxury, Delphine and Joachim continue to build on the values that have always defined Hotel De Castillion: elegance, authenticity, and heartfelt hospitality.
“At Hotel De Castillion, hospitality and personal attention are at the heart of everything we do. As second-generation, we warmly welcome you to our hotel, where historic charm and modern luxury blend harmoniously. Our goal is to provide you with an unforgettable stay in a warm and inviting atmosphere. Let yourself be surrounded by care and attention to detail. We look forward to meeting you!”
